    Prof. Zhen-Ling Ji, a member of the founding board of the ICRCC and responsible for international relations of the club, hosted the 14th International Colorectal Cancer Club Meeting from December 6th to 8th in Nanjing, China. The meeting was well organized and conducted together with the meetings of 9th Symposium of Nanjing International Minimally Invasive Surgery, 3rd Chinese Microcirculation Society GI cancer Branch Meeting, 7th Jiangsu Hernia Society Annual Meeting, 2019 Sino-Deutsch Healthcare Seminar and 4th Zhongda Tribune General Surgery sub-Tribune, Southeast University.

    The whole spectrum of treatment of colon and rectal cancer was covered over this 2 ½‑Day‑Meeting. Almost 500 participants listened to the lectures predominately given in English language. Lectures beside the host country China came from Germany, India, Japan, Russia and Turkey. Prof. Ji was able to gather many specialists from around the world in Nanjing. Beside keynote lectures of Hiroyuki Uetake, Tokyo, about “Tailoring multimodal treatment to colorectal liver metastases in Japan” and Wolfgang Dippold, Mainz, about “The update of palliative treatment for advanced colorectal cancer” and Jiang-Tao Li, Hangzhou, about “Surgical management of multiorgan metastases of colorectal cancer” the highlight of the meeting was the broadcast of two live operations, which were performed in the hospital of Yin Lu, Tongji University in Shanghai. The transmission was done using We Chat via smart phones.
    In summary, the meeting in Nanjing was a great success with almost 500 participants. It covered again a vast area of problems about prevention, diagnosis, staging and treatment of colon and rectal cancer highlighted from many different areas of the world.

    As president of the International Colorectal Cancer Club I would like to thank Prof. Ji and his local organizing committee for hosting and organizing such a great meeting.

    Prof. Marko Zelic, University of Rijeka and Member of the International Colorectal Cancer Club, hosted as president of the 13th Congress of the Croatian Association of Digestive Surgery. The meeting was well organized and included the whole spectrum of digestive surgery. Members of the International Colorectal Cancer Club participated in the meeting included Prof. Torbjörn Holm from Stockholm, Sweden, who gave a lecture about management of locally advanced rectal cancer, Prof. Stefan Benz from Böblingen, Germany, who gave a lecture about technique and outcome after laparoscopic wide hemicolectomy complete mesocolic excision, and Prof. M. Kornmann from Ulm, Germany, who gave lectures about laparoscopic rectal cancer resections, Where do we stand?, and possibilities of reconstruction of pelvic floor defects.     The 13th Congress of Colorectal Cancer of the International Colorectal Cancer Club took place from the 27th to the 29th of September 2018 at the University Hospital of Ulm, Germany. The theme of the 13th meeting was "Multidisciplinary approach- Challenge for the future". Under this theme almost 100 participants and speakers from nine countries discussed modern minimal invasive, endoscopically and surgically, as weil as interventionally treatment strategies for various disease stages.

    One high light of the meeting was the presentation about the effects of colon and rectal cancer screening in Germany on the incidents by Prof. Brenner form the German Cancer Research Institute (DKFZ) from Heidelberg. Another high light of the present meeting was the combined session with the German Society of Plastic and Reconstruction Surgery which held their 57th annual meeting in parallel about possibilities of reconstruction of the pelvic floor after extended resections of pelvic floor cancers.

    Despite the limited attendance of the 13th ICRCC meeting in Ulm the meeting again covered a vast area of present problems and latest results about prevention, diagnosis, staging and treatment of various stages of colon and rectal cancer focusing on the interdisciplinary strategies for advanced local disease of local pelvic, liver, and peritoneal disease.

    The program pdf can be viewed as weil as some impressions of our industrial exhibit and speakers of the meeting.

    As president of the 13th ICRCC I would like to thank all members, participants, and sponsors of our meeting.

    1t is a pleasure to welcome you cordially in Ulm for the 13th Congress on Colorectal Cancer of the International Colorectal Cancer Club (ICRCC) going to Iake place from the 27th to the 29th of September 2018 at our University Hospital. The 13th ICRCC Congress is a multidisciplinary exchange of knowledge with the theme "Multidisciplinary approach – Challenge for the future".

    Under this theme we want to focus on new treatment options of various stages of the disease. Modem minimal invasive approaches, endoscopically and surgically as weil as interventionally treatment strategies are going to be discussed as weil as potential interdisciplinary strategies for advanced local disease of liver and the peritoneum. ln parallel we also want to show the feasibility and limitations of surgical resections as weil as innovations and discuss individual solutions of specific problems. ln few of the fact that treatment of
    colon and rectal cancer in more and more countries is performed by specialized multidisciplinary teams a focus of our sessions is going to be the approach in various countries and to enlight treatment possibilities from various points and different professions.

    For that purpose we would also like to invite all personal that is involved in the management of patients suffering from colon and rectal cancer at our meeting in order to get familiar with their broad spectrum of treatment options that have become valuable for colon and rectal cancer within the last decades.

    We also welcome cordially the students of the medical school to participate our meeling in order to enable medical students to get informed about the multiple facets of treatment options of colon and rectal cancer.

    We encourage you to get actively involved in this broad challenge about the interdisciplinary Ireatmen I of colon and rectal cancer for the future and we wish all participants and visitors a very interesting and informative meeting. Welcome to Ulm

Surgery is the main treatment for colon and rectal cancers. There are some progresses in recent years, such as laparoscopic surgery, sentinel lymph node, pouch techniques, TME, local transanal resection, sphincter preserving operations, metastases treatment, pelvic exenteration, case load, quality control, fast track surgery, multimodal treatment and so on.
